Set dead or attack? The Trump dilemma of the Democrats

One party struggles with itself: the Democrats are looking for a strategy. While some clearly position themselves against Trump, others try to regain conservative voters.
US President Donald Trump turns on the country with radical politics and shakes the foundations of the rule of law – and the Democrats … yes, what actually? In the party, there seems to be great disagreement on how to meet the Republican, which has been drawn back into the White House. A strategist from the Democrats recently gave the party a drastic advice: stand dead.
“Let the Republicans collapse under their own weight and ensure that the Americans miss us,” James Carville wrote to his party colleagues in the “New York Times”. He is considered one of the main strategists behind Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 presidential campaign. “I call for a strategic political withdrawal,” wrote Carney.
In fact, there seems to be no clear strategy for the Democrats on how to get Trump politically. Three examples of how the party reacts to Trump and his policy:
A left grass root movement
At 83, Bernie Sanders is older than the shot ex-president Joe Biden. But the left Senator, who fought in vain for the presidential candidacy of the Democrats in 2016 and 2020, is a fixed point in US politics. He is well networked and has a loyal followers. But he probably doesn’t want to go to the White House anymore.
Nevertheless, he is one of the loudest Trump critics and, with the “fight against the oligarchy tour”, gives thousands of left in his appearances around his appearances-including on weekends. You have to be blind so as not to see that there is a government of billionaires in the United States today, controlled by billionaires and made for billionaires, he told the broadcaster NPR.
So who could take its place in 2028 in the race for the candidacy – and represent the progressive party wing? The congress member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seems to be in position. The 35-year-old is a prominent representative of the left wing of the Democrats. She became known in 2018 when she defeated an established Democrat in the primaries in New York.
It is open whether Ocasio -Cortez really chose her party’s presidential candidacy – and certainly too early for you to commit yourself. But in the past few days she has performed several times with Sanders, and numerous people came. Both advertise for a grass root movement against Trump – a political or social movement that comes from the base of the population.
The Democratic Party does not have an obvious leader behind which everyone is flocking. But there are some that dare to cover – especially California governor Gavin Newsom. The 57-year-old has long been said to be looking at the White House. When the debate broke out last summer that Biden was supposed to withdraw his candidacy, his name fell again and again as a potential successor. As is known, the choice fell on Biden’s Vice Kamala Harris at the time.
Now the newsoma, which is actually a flagship-liberal, is an interesting way. In his new podcast, Newsom said that he thinks it is unfair when trans women compete in women’s sports. He broke with a position of the Democrats. The selection of guests in his podcast is also remarkable. Among them is the ultra -right publicist Steve Bannon. Newson chatted with him in a relaxed tone – he also had Bannon repeated the lie from fraud in the presidential election in 2020, in which Trump lost to bidges.
The Democrats are partially elitist and withdrawn in the United States. They are accused of dealing with too much with identity policy and not taking care of the workers seriously. Newsom’s strategy should be to counter this criticism and to regain lost voter groups with more conservative positions. There are different opinions in the party as to whether a kind of populism from links or a center with a focus on traditional values is necessary to gain elections.
Another old acquaintance, who is currently noticeable often in public, is Tim Walz. The governor of Minnesota wanted to move into the White House as a candidate for the vice at Harris’s side. Now he organized several citizens’ forums in the middle west and gave a number of interviews. “I would say that the way to authoritarianism was paved with people who say: You exaggerate,” said the 60-year-old with a view of Trump in a conversation with “The New Yorker”. When asked about a possible candidacy, he says: “I will do whatever is necessary. I would certainly not be so arrogant to believe that I absolutely have to be.”
In a recent survey among the Democrats’ pendants on the presidential forecast in 2028, Harri’s once failed candidate has the most support if she competes (36 percent). Former Minister of Transport Pete Buttigieg (10 percent) is far behind in second place. Ocasio-Cortez, Newsom and Walz share third place with 5 percent. Harris is currently considering whether she should apply for the Governor’s Office in California for the election in 2026.
The Democrats are in the congress in the minority – but they are not completely toothless. A prime example of a lack of concept is their behavior in parliament. Instead of unity and strength, they demonstrate split and tornness. It all started with the party’s unglen reaction to Trump’s speech in the congress. Instead of a common message, there was anti-trump signs here, confessed color choice in the clothes there-and some congress members did not appear at all.
However, there was an open break when voting on the household. In the room there was the question of whether the Democrats support the Finance Act of Trump’s Republicans or accept a standstill by government transactions, i.e. a shutdown, to express their protest. There were a number of good pro and contra arguments for the party for both options. But instead of agreeing and defending it, there was a strategic super-gau.
While the Democrats in the House of Representatives voted almost closed against the household, Chuck Schumer, the minority leader of the Democrats in the Senate, made a U -turn. He made sure that the budget with the necessary votes from his party passed the parliamentary chamber. The reason: the price is too high, is not worthwhile here. It reminds of the advice to make deadly first.
Since then, criticism of the 74-year-old has not stopped, there are claims for withdrawal. There is also the question in the room whether the leadership of the Democrats in the two chambers speaks seriously at all. In any case, there was a poisoned praise for Schumer’s change of heart: “Congratulations to Chuck Schumer, who does the right thing.”
