Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is nervous about Russian troops on the border, French President Emmanuel Macron shared this opinion. He spoke about this on Tuesday, February 8, after negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“President Zelensky is today the president of the country, on the border of which there are 125 thousand Russian military. So yes, he is nervous,” Macron said during a press conference.
He noted at the same time that Zelensky lacks composure in the international arena in the context of the situation on the border of Ukraine, and “this should be welcomed.”
To the remark about the Minsk agreements, which Zelensky criticized, noting that he did not like any of the points of the document, Vladimir Putin responded with a saying, emphasizing that there was no alternative to the agreements.
“In Kiev, they either say that they will comply, or they say that it will destroy their country. The incumbent recently stated that he does not like a single point from these Minsk agreements. Well, like it – don’t like it, be patient, my beauty. We have to do it, it won’t work any other way,” Putin said.
Earlier, during a press conference, the Russian leader recalled that he once promised the ex-leader of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, to provide political asylum in Russia. Then they mocked his proposal, but today it is more relevant than ever, primarily for humanitarian reasons.
The talks between Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron took place on Monday, February 7, in the Kremlin. The conversation between the two leaders lasted more than five hours. Putin and Macron began their conversation in the representative office of the first building of the Kremlin, and continued over a working lunch. The meeting ended around midnight, the presidents of Russia and France held a final press conference.
Meeting his French counterpart, President Putin noted that he had not spoken to Macron in person for two years, which is why many issues have accumulated that can and should be discussed in a direct format. The French leader noted that a dialogue with Russia is necessary as the only way to ensure real stability and security for the European continent.
After the meeting with the Russian President, the French leader intends to meet with Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev on February 8.
The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s “aggressive actions” against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
On January 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States were “hysterically” developing the topic of a threat to Ukraine from the Russian Federation instead of forcing Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements.
