Painting: Trump complains about portrait: “Definitely distorted”

US President Donald Trump said indignantly about a portrait of him that hangs in the parliamentary building of the state of Colorado. The painting is “deliberately distorted” as he “may never have seen it”, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. The artist also painted the former President Barack Obama – and in contrast, he looks “wonderful”.

According to US media reports, the portrait was hung up in the Capital of the State of Colorado in 2019-financed by a crowdfunding campaign that a Republican politician initiated during Trump’s first term. Before that, an art support association had not managed to collect sufficient donations for the picture, as the “Time Magazine” reported. With crowdfunding, more than $ 10,000 (around 9,240 euros) came together within a few hours. The artist Sarah A. Boardman, who had previously portrayed Obama, was then commissioned.

Trump wants to have paintings removed

“She must have lost her talent when she got older,” said Trump. “I would like to have no painting than this.” He announced that he wanted to talk to Colorado’s governor Jared Polis about a distance of the picture – many people from Colorado had complained and were “even really angry”. Trump described the democratic governor – as is so often the case with political opponents – as “radical left” and added: “Jared should be ashamed!”

The local broadcaster 9News cited the governor Polis office with the words that it was “surprised to learn that the President of the United States appreciates the Capitol of Colorado and the works of art so much”. The “interest of the President and everyone else” has to be appreciated and it is always effort to improve the visitor experience in the Capitol.
