In the future, the left – or the AfD will be needed to reform the debt brake and other constitutional changes. Left boss van Aken is cooperative, but on one condition.
The left offers its participation in a fundamental reform of the debt brake. However, an agreement of all democratic parties is a prerequisite for not looking for two -thirds majorities with the AfD in the next four years, said party leader Jan van Aken in Berlin. This also applies to decisions such as the occupation of judges or other changes to the Basic Law.
You have to “agree on it, as it was also stated in the federal states of Thuringia, Saxony with a written agreement: you work together without the votes of the AfD, and this applies to any kind of coordination where the voices are needed,” said van Aken.
Union, the SPD and Greens had decided last week with a two -thirds majority in the Bundestag to loosen the debt brake for defense spending and also anchor a special fund of 500 billion euros for infrastructure in the Basic Law. At the same time, the goal of a further reform of the debt brake was set by the end of 2025. In the future, votes from the left or the AfD will be necessary in the Bundestag.
Van Aken said: “We still want to abolish the debt brake.” A basic reform by the end of 2025 is a good approach. “But now we want a specific timetable,” he said. It is also not enough to take two or three other sectors from the debt brake, but “something like the golden rule” is needed across sectors. Symbol politics or “household voodoo” will not participate.
