US President Trump is confident: a raw material agreement with Ukraine is imminent. It should actually be signed weeks ago – but then the scandal came.
US President Donald Trump continues to be confident that an agreement on a strategic raw material partnership with Ukraine is imminent. Finance Minister Scott Bessent told him that the agreement on rare earth with Ukraine was almost complete, said Trump after a cabinet meeting. “You will sign it shortly.”
The President once again repeated his claim that Europe would only give the auxiliary funds as a loan and that the USA had so far only pumped the money into Ukraine in this way. This is very unfair and therefore the agreement on rare earths will be concluded. Last week Trump had confidently commented on that an agreement would come shortly.
Eklat prevented agreement
The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj had actually traveled to Washington a few weeks ago to conclude a raw material agreement with the USA. During the visit there was a scandal in the White House, Selenskyj was publicly cited by Trump and his Vice JD Vance. The meeting was canceled prematurely. After that, the already negotiated agreement was on ice.
Shortly after taking office in January, Trump had made help for the Ukraine attacked by Russia to access to their stock of rare earths. The exploitation of raw materials in Ukraine is considered strategically significant and economically lucrative. A large part of the resources is also located in the Ukrainian areas occupied by Russia.
