Diversity: US Justice Minister is targeting Unis
Many universities had diversity programs to counteract historical disadvantages from blacks or women. But that was before Trump’s tenure.
The US government wants to stop the diversity programs of universities when admission of students. Justice Minister Pam Bondi ordered an investigation from California universities, including Berkeley, Stanford and the University of California in Los Angeles.
Here it should be checked whether skin color, gender or other such criteria played a role here, the Ministry of Justice said. It is about violations of “illegal dei policy”. “Dei” stands for “diversity, equity and inclusion” (diversity, justice and inclusion)
The ministry said that universities have now been prohibited from using such criteria when selecting students for admission. Students should only be assessed according to performance and the Ministry of Justice demands compliance with the regulations. “President Trump and I are committed to ending illegal discrimination,” wrote Bondi.
In the middle of the month, the almost dissolved Ministry of Education had announced that investigations against around 50 universities had been initiated. They would not have reacted to an earlier letter to stop or violate their diversity policy.
The diversity programs had been introduced to counteract historical disadvantages from blacks or women.
