Middle East: First Israeli air raid at Beirut since November

For the first time since the ceasefire between Israel and the Hisbollah came into force, there has again been an air raid in a suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut. There were two explosions to be heard, reporters from the German press agency reported on site. Black smoke rose.

There were no reports on possible victims at first. On a often divided video on social media, which is supposed to show the attack, it can be seen that at least one building has been destroyed. The Lebanese TV broadcaster Al-Jadid reported two destroyed buildings. From the Israeli Air Force it was said that a drone warehouse of the Hezbollah militia was attacked in the suburbs known as Dahija.

In the capital and in the suburbs, fighter planes were previously seen in the sky. The Hisbollah’s TV station, Al-Manar, reported that there were several limited warning strokes with drones before the attack.

In the morning, the Israeli army had already reported shelling from Lebanon. A rocket was intercepted, another landed on Lebanese soil, it said. The Hisbollah rejected responsibility for this. In turn, Israel attacked several destinations in the South Libanon.

Israeli military previously stated warning to residents

Previously, Israel’s military had directed a warning to the residents of the area at Beirut. They were near Hisbollah facilities, it said on the X Canal of the Arabic-speaking military spokesman. Another Israeli military spokesman said that the missile attack from Lebanon in the morning was a blatant violation of the ceasefire. The state of Lebanon is responsible for compliance with the agreement.

A ceasefire has actually been in the case since November. The Lebanese Hisbollah supported by Iran had shot down with rockets for more than a year since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023.
