Trump has mocked Canada several times than “51st state” of the United States. Now he is talking to the new head of government for the first time and is changing his tone.
US President Donald Trump spoke to the new Canadian head of government for the first time and announced a meeting immediately after the elections in Canada. Trump also called Mark Carney in a post on his Truth Social platform correctly Prime Minister, whose predecessor Justin Trudeau had mostly referred to as a governor. Trump also wanted to make it clear that he would like to see Canada as a 51st state of the United States.
“It was an extremely productive conversation, we agree in many things and will meet immediately after the upcoming elections in Canada,” wrote Trump. The elections are to take place on April 28th. The conversations with Canada should be about politics and business, and lead to the fact that it is good for both countries, Trump continued. Like other countries, Canada is affected by the US additional car tariffs from April 3.
Carney previously committed his country to realign relationships with the United States. “It is obvious that the United States is no longer a reliable partner,” he said in the capital Ottawa. “The old relationship we had with the United States, which was based on an ever deeper integration of our economies and close security policy and military cooperation, is over.”
