Peskov noted the independence of Lukashenka in the issue of recognition of Abkhazia

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko knows about Russia’s recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, he will independently make decisions on these issues when he sees fit. This was stated on February 8 during a briefing by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from journalists whether Lukashenka is waiting for a “signal” from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on this issue.

“There is a situation de jure and de facto,” he said.

“This is a reality that Alexander Grigorievich knows well. He will make a decision on his own when he sees fit, ”Peskov said.

According to him, there is no need for additional signals.

On February 7, Lukashenko said that Belarus could recognize Crimea as Russian, and South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent republics, but this would happen under certain conditions. According to the politician, recognition will take place as soon as Putin understands and tells him about such a need.

On February 1, it became known that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine created a temporary commission of inquiry to investigate the facts that contributed to the loss of Crimea. It was noted that the commission intends to verify the authenticity of information about the facts of assistance to officials of state bodies and local governments of Ukraine in the temporary “occupation of Crimea in 2013-2014.”

In turn, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, stressed that the Crimeans made their choice during a referendum in 2014. According to him, Ukraine abandoned plans to annex Crimea, fearing the resistance of the Crimeans, who will stand up for the Motherland.

Crimea became part of Russia after a referendum held there in 2014, in which the absolute majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula voted for joining the Russian Federation. At the same time, Ukraine refuses to recognize the results of the vote and considers Crimea its territory.

The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea voted for democratic reunification with Russia in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter. According to the President of the Russian Federation, the issue of Crimea’s ownership is finally closed.
