A year ago, smoking smoke became legal for adults. There is still a dispute. But what effects does legalization have in everyday life? And should everything be tilted again?
The partial legalization of cannabis is still controversial one year after the entry into force – a back to the ban, according to a survey, there is also no majority. The fact that legalization should be reversed is in favor of 38 percent, as the survey of the opinion research institute YouGov showed on behalf of the German Press Agency. 38 percent are also in favor of leaving legalization in the previous framework. An even further release with fewer restrictions supports 11 percent. No information on this question made 13 percent.
A year ago, on April 1, 2024, smoking smoke in Germany was legal for adults with numerous restrictions. According to the law of the traffic light coalition, the cultivation of up to three plants is allowed in apartments, you can keep up to 50 grams of cannabis. Since July 1, 2024, non-commercial cultivation associations with up to 500 members have also been permitted, for which many requirements also apply. Cannabis is still prohibited for everyone under the age of 18.
Every second one sees the overall approval negative
According to the survey, 50 percent consider legalization. All in all, you tend to be wrong – you will find 28 percent completely wrong, more incorrectly another 22 percent. On the other hand, they consider 17 percent to be completely correct and, for the right 22 percent. With “don’t know” or “no information”, 11 percent answered. From March 25th to 27th, 2,055 people aged 18 and over were interviewed.
Even after the controlled approval, the significant majority of the survey still cannot. Since legalization, no cannabis has been consumed 87 percent. “Yes, but not because of legalization,” said 4 percent. Due to legalization, 3 percent.
Concern for youth protection – fight against black market
A different picture is shown in the event of further effects. A third of the respondents stated that they have more cannabis consumption in their own everyday environment. It tends to be disturbed by 26 percent. 67 percent are concerned about the health protection of children and adolescents. Accordingly, 49 percent believe that the legal cannabis offer can push back the black market.
The stimulus topic is also on the table in the coalition negotiations of the Union and SPD for the future federal government. In their election program, the CDU and CSU had announced that they would abolish the legalization law. There were no signs that the SPD also spends this.
Police unionists complain about weaknesses in the law
The deputy chair of the police union (GdP), Alexander Poitz, criticized the law that the law was still a “short of defects”. The police have to deal with the “shortcomings” of the law every day, Poitz told the Editorial Network Germany (RND). The citizens were also unsettled by “blurring and lack of control and proof options”. Every day on which the law does not get better, “neither the black market nor does the protection of minors or traffic safety are improved,” emphasized the trade unionist.
