France’s right -wing populist Marine Le Pen is guilty of embezzlement. However, the court has not yet answered the crucial question.
In the process of allevating EU funds, the court in Paris guilty of right-wing populist Marine Le Pen on Monday. Eight other EU members of their party National (marginal) were also spoken guilty. The preaching of the sentence is still pending.
The public prosecutor had five years in prison for Le Pen, three of them on probation, and a fine. Her demand for an immediately applicable prohibition caused a stir in elections. This could destroy Le Pens plans to compete in the 2027 presidential election. A possible prison sentence, on the other hand, would be suspended if it appeals. Le Pen rejects all allegations. The court has not yet answered the question of selectability.
Marine Le Pen appeared tense in court
Le Pen personally appeared in court on Monday with a tense face. “I don’t think the judges go that far,” she had explained in an interview with the newspaper “JDD” published the day before. She is not nervous, but there is a reason for this: “With the immediate ban on starting in elections, the judges decide on the life and death of our movement,” she emphasized. A ban on making elections would be a “deeply undemocratic decision”.
The vice -chief of the party racial nationally (marginal), Louis Aliot, said that the judgment would “not weaken” the party. “It is no secret that (party leader) Jordan Bardella would be well placed” in order to start at Le Pens in the presidential election, he told TF1 on Monday. He is also accused and could lose his post as mayor of the South French city of Perpignan.
According to a survey published at the weekend, Le Pen lies further in front of surveys for the presidential election. Depending on the opposite candidate, she would come to 34 to 37 percent in the first round. In the event of her election victory, the right-wing populist wants to put French law on EU law and massively tighten immigration policy.
