According to a court ruling, Marine Le Pen will not be able to compete for the presidency. Undemocratic – are now calling those who otherwise do not care much.
It has been over 20 years since Marine Le Pen claimed: “The French are fed up with the chosen official.” Did the French right -wing populist forget that? Or, hoping that the rest of France would do it, ignored?
Now it is clear: Marine Le Pen and around two dozen members of the racial embleme National (RN) have misappropriated European funds in the millions – for the benefit of their own party. They are said to have paid employees from the money who worked for the party.
The right -wing populist, who was previously acted as a serious competitor of Emmanuel Macron, has built her presidential candidacy. By court order, she may no longer be elected to political offices for five years. Instead, you can expect a four -year prison sentence – two years on probation and two years with ankeeping bondage – as well as a fine of 100,000 euros.
Foreign heads of state stand behind Marine Le Pen
Le Pen has not yet commented on all of this. She left the courtroom even before the judges announced the judgment. This does not stop others from positioning themselves (for them). Le Pens supporters in France are already discussing whether the court ruling is countering the democratic principles. The chairman of the RN, Jordan Bardella, spoke of a death blow, even the.
And LE PEN supporters also voted up abroad – above all Hungary’s head of state Viktor Orbán. Its Fidesz party has fraternized with the RN in the European Parliament. Together, the two parties form the back level of “patriots for Europe”. The right-wing fraction is the third strongest deputy in the EU Parliament.
Since the start of the trial, Orban had repeatedly pretended to be a supporter Le Pens and called on to continue fighting. Little surprise, shortly after the verdict, he stood right behind his sister in the political spirit: “Je Suis Marine”, the Hungarian politician wrote in French in the online service X. “I am a marine.”

Italy’s Vice Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, Chairman of the Lega Right Party, said the court ruling on the “declaration of war”, with which one wanted to exclude Le Pen from political life, and added: “We do not be intimidated, we do not stop: full strength ahead, my girlfriend!”.

Greetings from Moscow
Like other European right -wing populists, Marine Le Pen is said to be a certain proximity to the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin. In 2017, the Kremlin boss received her in Moscow. In addition, the French right -wing movement – at that time still known under the name Front National – benefited from loans from Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow now criticized, the judgment violated democratic values.
Russia will never interfere in France’s domestic politics, but: “Our observations in the European capitals show that one is by no means reserved to cross the limits of democracy in the political process,” said Peskow in Moscow and referred to Romania. In March, a court ruled that the pro -Russian politician Calin Georgescu should not be a presidential candidate for the elections in May. The previously unknown politician surprisingly won the first round of the presidential election last November. However, the Romanian constitutional court collected the victory again on suspicion of Russian election interference.
