Noch am Wochenende war Donald Trump “stinksauer” auf den Kremlchef. Now he believes that Putin will give in in the Ukraine negotiations as planned.
After unusually clear criticism of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump has shown himself to be confident that the Kremlin chief now complies with “his part” of the agreement to terminate the Ukraine War. “I think he will stick to what he told me,” Trump said in front of journalists in the White House on Monday. “I think he will now fulfill his part of the agreement.”
Trump also confirmed that he did not want to impose any “additional” tariffs against Russia. “But I think I would do something if I had the feeling that he didn’t do the right thing,” he added.
Donald Trump recently “pissed off” about Putin
Trump had previously commented unusually critically about Putin. In the absence of progress in the conversations about a ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump commented in an NBC interview at the weekend “very upset and pissed off” (Pissed Off) about Putin because he had caught up with the credibility of the Ukrainian head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj.
According to Trump’s statements, the Kremlin then confirmed Putin’s willingness to talk to the US President. “Der Präsident bleibt offen für Kontakt mit Präsident Trump”, sagte Putins Sprecher Dmitri Peskow am Montag. The work continues, and in addition to restoring bilateral relationships with the United States, it is about the “implementation of some ideas in connection with a solution” of the Ukraine conflict.
Representatives of the United States had held talks about a possible ceasefire with delegations from Russia and Ukraine in recent weeks. Putin recently rejected the US proposal of unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine and renewed his demands after the Ukrainian government was replaced.
