Many opponents of the war have fled from Russia since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Moscow extends the repression against dissenters and also aims at the fleeting.
The Russian Parliament, the State Duma, has launched a new legislative package against war opponents. “Anyone who left cowardly abroad and continues to harm our country, financed Ukrainian Nazis, discredited the Russian army and calls on crimes against Russia must understand that he has to answer for it,” said Duma boss Wjatscheslaw Wolodin of the official homepage of parliament. The laws introduced by more than 400 MPs were adopted in the first reading. Three readings are necessary for the farewell.
In one of the law, the concept of “foreign agent” is expanded. Russians should now also be explained that help international organizations “work against the interests of Russia”. In a second law, 20 new criminal offenses are introduced, in which accused can also be convicted in absence. This includes, for example, the “spread of false reports” and “discrediting of the Russian army”.
It is also planned to tighten the penalties for war opponents: Seven years in prison are planned for the “self -supporting support” of international organizations, for “discrediting the army” or calls to sanctions against Russia for five years. The insertion should also be possible. The Russian leadership drastically tightened the laws against war opponents in their own country after the invasion of Ukraine, which started more than three years ago.
