Because of the repression against dissenters, most leading oppositions in Russia have fled abroad. Now the authorities are proceeding against the parents of a prominent Kremlin critic.
The Russian authorities have initiated investigations against the father of the prominent opposition politician Leonid Wolkow and carried out a house search. The 69-year-old Mikhail Wolkow will be accused of financing an extremist organization, the state news agency TASS reported, citing security organs.
Wolkow, who is emigrated abroad, who is some of the most important confidants of the Kreml opponent Alexej Nawalny, who died in custody, confirmed the search of the parents’ house at Telegram. However, he denied the arrest. “Technology has been confiscated with them and they are brought to further investigations,” he said.
Anti-corruption organization now banned
According to the previously known allegations, Wolkow’s father is said to have transferred money to the foundation founded by Nawalny for combating corruption (FBK). Wolkow is considered a key figure at FBK. The organization had disclosed numerous corruption scandal rank -high Russian politicians, including Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. In Russia, it is now banned as extremist.
Michail Wolkow is a mathematician and was a professor at the university in the city of Jekaterinburg on the Ural Mountains. His son now said that he was released in February because of the authorities. From Putin’s point of view, his father committed two crimes. The first one is that he is his father, the second that he was an honest person, said Wolkow.
