At Signal, Pete Hegseth shared details about US military operation. Does he violate confidentiality rules? This is now investigating the internal supervision of his ministry.
After the publication of content from a secret group chat of high-ranking US government members, the internal supervision of the Pentagon has initiated an investigation. This is intended to check the handling of Defense Minister Pete Hegseth with the signal app. This emerges from a letter from the independent control body.
It states that the investigation of the Arm forces committee in the US Senate. It should therefore be checked whether Hegseth inadmissibly communicated operative plans for a US military strike against the Huthi-Miliz in Yemen via the commercial app-and whether regulations on the confidentiality and the storage of government documents were met. According to the letter, other ministry staff is also the focus.
US magazine published Hegseth’s chat messages
At the end of March, the US magazine “The Atlantic” had made the content public after its editor-in-chief had probably accidentally got into the chat. This shows that Hegseth called the schedule, the sequence of the bombing and weapons systems used about half an hour before the start of a military operation. Literally it says: “The target terrorist is on his well -known location.”
In their request to the Pentagon position, the Republican Senator Roger Wicker and the democratic Senator Jack Reed had expressed significant concerns. The incident may raise questions about the “use of non -classified networks for communication about sensitive and as secret information”.
US President Donald Trump recently stood behind the members of the chat group, who also included his security advisor Mike Waltz. This had apparently accidentally added the journalists. According to the “New York Times”, however, there was displeasure within the government behind the scenes.
