Violated the US defense minister against confidentiality rules when he shared details about a military operation? The internal test center of his ministry is now concerned.
The internal supervision of the US Department of Defense examines the publication of content from a secret group chat of high-ranking government members. At the request of the Minister of Defense, Minister of Defense Pete Hegseth, the Signal app is examined with the Signal app, as can be seen from a letter from the independent control body.
According to this, it should be examined whether Hegseth inadmissibly shared operative plans for a US military mission against the Huthi militia in Yemen about the commercial app-and whether regulations on the confidentiality and the storage of government documents were met. According to the letter, the actions of other ministry employees are also in focus.
At the end of March, the US magazine “The Atlantic” made the content of the chat public after his editor -in -chief – probably accidentally – was invited to the signal group. From the passed communication, it shows that Hegseth called the schedule, the sequence of the bombing and weapons systems used about half an hour before the start of a military operation. Literally it says: “The target terrorist is on his well -known location.”
In their request to the Pentagon supervision, the Republican Senator Roger Wicker and the Democratic Senator Jack Reed expressed considerable concerns. There is a suspicion of “use of non -classified networks for communication via sensitive and as secret information”.
At least US President Donald Trump recently stood behind the members of the chat group, who also included his security advisor Mike Waltz. The latter had apparently unintentionally invited the “Atlantic” editor-in-chief. According to the New York Times, however, there is definitely resentment within the government behind the scenes.
When asked about the investigation initiated, Trump reacted annoyed. “Don’t start it again,” he replied when asked by a journalist. “It’s such a wasted story.”
