After months of political unrest, South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Office is relieved – a turning point for the country.
The South Korean Constitutional Court officially confirmed the accused President Yoon Suk Yeol. The request of the parliament, which was based on the short -term imposition of war law last year, was assumed. This decision has marked the highlight of the country’s most severe political crisis for decades.
The crisis began on December 3, when Yoon Suk Yeol imposed war law to supposedly fight “anti -state” elements. Just six hours later, he picked up the decree after the parliament rejected it.
Nevertheless, the measure led to months of protests and a deep split between the government and the opposition. The President accused the opposition Democratic Party of abusing their parliamentary majority.
Criminal proceedings and presidential elections in South Korea
Regardless of the survey, Yoon Suk Yeol must be responsible for turmoil in criminal proceedings. The 64-year-old was the first acting South Korean President in January, but was released again in March. According to South Korea’s constitution, a presidential election must now take place within 60 days.
Until the inauguration of a new president, Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo takes over the tasks of the head of the state. Han emphasized on Friday that he would maintain a solid security situation to prevent a vacuum in national security and diplomacy.
