In a “candlelight dinner”, wealthy guests can search for the direct line to the US president-behind closed doors in his private club Mar-A-Lago.
US President Donald Trump starts the weekend with an exclusive dinner: For a seat at the “Maga Inc. Candlelight Dinner” on Friday evening (local time) in his estate Mar-A-Lago in Florida, according to the CBS News broadcaster (around 913,000 euros).
The high-priced evening is not organized directly by the President himself, but by the Lobby Group Maga Inc., a so-called Super-Pac. According to US voting rights, these groups may collect an unlimited donations to support politicians-officially without coordinating them. This is probably why the invitation to the dinner, according to CBS News in the small print, indicates that Trump only appears as a guest speaker – and does not actively promote donations.
Last year, Maga Inc. collected high million sums for Trump’s election campaign, according to publicly accessible information.
The dinner falls into a politically tense phase: this week Trump had announced a huge customs package. Since then, the markets have been on the world. The head of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, warned of higher inflation and an anti-growth climate.
Maga Inc. already stopped such dinner in Mar-A-Lago-according to the portals “Axios” and “Wired”, also with a price of one million dollars per place. According to CBS News, another dinner will take place on April 24 – in the capital Washington, but at the same price. If you dig deeper into your pocket, you can secure a special status: for $ 2.5 million as “co-hosts”, for five million as the official host of the evening.
What exactly is happening with the money is unclear. According to “Washington Post”, a spokesman for Maga Inc. refused information in December.
Mar-A-Lago as a strategic point of contact
Trump’s luxurious private club has been in focus for years; Even as US President, he usually spends his weekends in Florida. After his election victory in November, Mar-A-Lago became the contact point for billions in supporters and political companions. One of the regular guests: Tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Critics see Mar-A-Lago a symbol of the style of a president who staged himself like an American oligarch-with magnificent events behind closed doors, in which politics and business mingled in a difficult to be transparent way.
