Nationwide protests against Trump in the United States

After weeks of shock rigid, public resistance is slowly forming against the US President and his radical course. There are large demonstrations in many cities.

Nationwide demonstrations against Donald Trump: In the United States, people have protested thousands against the politics of the President in many places. In the US capital alone, several thousand demonstrators gathered on the Washington Monument near the White House. There were also large protest campaigns in dozens of other cities – for example in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit or Chicago. The organizers spoke of “millions” participants in a total of more than 1,300 meetings. There were no official figures or estimates.

Different organizations had called for a nationwide day of action and larger and smaller events in all US states – under the motto “Hands away”. In advance, the organizers had expected hundreds of thousands of participants nationwide. In the end, they said millions of people participated. However, there were no secure numbers. The police in the capital Washington, for example, announced no estimate of the number of participants there on request. On social media, however, photos and videos of large crowds of people spread to many places in the country.

“A prospective autocrate”

In Washington, demonstrators, among other things, called for the constitution to defend the constitution, to remove Trump of the Office and not to feel the social system. On others it said: “Hands away from democracy” or “stops the coup”.

Four women were among the demonstrators in Washington – Trish, Laura, Laurel and Jacky. Trish lives in the US capital, Laura, Laurel and Jacky from the states of North Carolina and Virginia. They consider what is currently happening in the country to be dangerous. Jacky criticized that Trump was a “prospective autocrate” who prefers to bandele with the Russian President Vladimir Putin than with democratically elected heads of state. “We respect democracy, we respect its rules – and this is a government that breaks one rule after the other,” complained Trish. Trump alienates the country from its traditional allies.

The criticism was not only against Trump himself, but also against Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who, from the perspective of many demonstrating, interferes too much into government transactions. In New York, too, despite the drizzle, thousands demonstrated against Trump and Musk-the head of the e-car company Tesla, who is in and out in the White House. In the Bryant Park, demonstrators held signs with inscriptions such as “Elon the connector” or: “I can only write this here because there was a Ministry of Education”.

People protested against the dismantling of US authorities, including the Ministry of Education, against the circumcision of development aid, against migration policy-against everything that Trump and his government stand for.

Trump has started with the help of Musks since taking office to rebuild the state apparatus, to fire federal employees on a large scale and to adopt several authorities completely. With many highly controversial decisions and advances, he made outrage, both domestic and foreign policy. The Republican, for example, takes great hardness against migrants and minorities. On the first day in office, he threatened that the United States will “get back” the Panama Canal, if necessary with military violence. Since then he has also made the right to Greenland and the Gaza Strip and repeatedly called on Canada to become part of the United States. Democrats and experts consider his course to be a great danger to America’s democracy.

The president goes golf

However, people in the country also worry about their own economy after Trump announced a global customs package, according to which imports from all countries to the USA are occupied by punishment. This should not only affect the global economy as a whole, but also let prices for Americans rise. The new tariffs are added to various other criminal levies that have already been introduced.

Shortly after the announcement of the new controversial customs package, Trump had said goodbye to Florida for an extended golf weekend, where he took part in a club championship. He was therefore not in the White House when the demonstrators positioned themselves not far from the government center. But there were also protests against him in Florida.

Get out of the shock rigid

In the first weeks of his second term, Trump had made decisions at a dizzying pace, signed decrees and kept the world in suspense with one excitement after the other. Many citizens and members of the Democratic Party seemed like in a shock rigid for weeks. There were no protests for a long time.

Only slowly now the public resistance of the Trump opponents, even with the Democrats. A few days ago, the democratic Senator Cory Booker had attracted a lot of attention with a 25-hour marathon speech against Trump in parliament. Most recently, former Democratic US President Barack Obama and Trump’s campaign opponent Kamala Harris critically spoke up after a long silence.
