Netanyahu wants to deal with Iran’s nuclear facilities

In the presence of Israel’s head of government Netanyahu, US President Trump announced nuclear discussions with Iran. In the event of a deal, Israel insists on an agreement “based on Libyan model”.

After the US announcement, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given new nuclear discussions with Iran conditions for a possible agreement. “We agree that Iran will not have any nuclear weapons. This can be done in the form of an agreement, but only if it is an agreement according to Libyan model,” said Netanyahu in a video address in Washington.

Libya had a nuclear weapons program that the country handed over the USA in 2003 and 2004. Iranian nuclear facilities should be blown up under US supervision and the entire equipment was dismantled, Netanyahu continued a deal based on Libyan model. “That would be good.” However, it seems almost excluded that the management of the Islamic Republic would accept such an agreement.

US President Donald Trump announced talks between the United States and Iran on Monday at a meeting with the Israeli head of government. If these are not successful, Netanyahu brought another military option into play. Trump and he had discussed this opportunity in detail, he said.

Israel’s government has repeatedly threatened with the bombing of Iranian nuclear systems. Israel fears that Iran could strive for nuclear weapons. Tehran denies that.

During his first term, Trump had unilaterally released the Vienna nuclear pact in 2018, which should limit Iran’s nuclear program and, in return, cancel sanctions. Back then, Netanyahu was one of the sharpest critics in the atomic deal.
