The Union and SPD coalition agreement will primarily be about the content. At the very end, however, it will also be the ministries that go to which party.
According to information from the German Press Agency, the CDU is to take over the Foreign Ministry for the first time in a Federal Government under a Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) for the first time in almost 60 years. Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Defense are to be managed by the SPD and the Ministry of the Interior should go to the Union. Union and SPD agreed on this, as the dpa learned from negotiation circles after “Politico” and “Bild” first reported on it.
The distribution of the departments to the parties is regulated in the coalition agreement that the Union and SPD want to present in the afternoon. The ministries are then only occupied by the three parties.
At the time of the traffic light coalition, there were 15 ministries in addition to the Chancellery and a total of 17 cabinet posts, since in addition to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) there was also a chancellor’s head of the Federal Minister.
