Gender: With He/She there is no answer from the White House

No answer for pronouns: According to a report by the “New York Times”, the White House does not respond to inquiries from journalists who use so-called gender pronouns such as “she/her” (“You/her”) in their email signatures.

It was a political principle that the White House does not respond to reporters that pronouns had in their signatures, wrote press spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt to a reporter from the newspaper. The “New York Times” article was posted by a social media team from the White House on the X platform.

Pronouns as an expression of solidarity

In social media or in email signatures, in which telephone number or short information on the sender, it is not unusual to indicate “gender pronouns”, ie personnel pronouns. The movement comes from the USA. Gender denotes the social gender – in contrast to the biological gender.

For example, when influencers behind their names in brackets indicate “she/her” (ie “they/her”), they show solidarity with trans people and non-binary people who do not have to explain themselves for pronouns such as “they/them”. Trans people do not identify with the gender that was attributed to them at birth. None-binary people have neither a male nor a female gender identity.

“Every reporter who records his preferred pronouns in his signature obviously has no interest in biological reality or truth and therefore cannot be familiar with the fact that he writes a correct message,” said Leavitt in an email. The newspaper reported that the government would also not react in some cases.
