A Space Ministry? Yes, it needs that! After all, the new coalition was brave in one place: Of course, Germany now has to conquer all.
Germany receives a Space Ministry. Yeah, that may sound absurd at first, some megalomaniac or unnecessary. This decision breathes just the right way of discovering for this time.
In short: mentally out of the troublesome present, purely into infinite expanses. This decision of the new government is not one thing above all: Grand coalition. Good this way!
Otherwise there are hardly any surprising ones in the new coalition agreement. Neither in energy policy, taxes nor with the pension the CDU/CSU and SPD really seem to mutually attract something. Since Friedrich Merz pulled red lines for the richest in tax increases, even the intended tax reform for companies and the middle class is only promised for two years.
Space Ministry? You will probably still be able to dream!
The coalition seems so much dealing with the dangers of the present that there was hardly any time to look into the future. In this way – despite some extensive decisions – important questions of the future are shifted to the day after tomorrow. This is how the coalition agreement reads.
No, such a space ministry does not compensate for adhered fundamental decisions. But the fact that the previous Ministry of Research will be supplemented by this area is at least the right signal. Yes, you can have dreams in politics.
CSU boss Markus Söder, in particular, had fought for this. The Bavarian may be grateful that its two financial policy shameful acts-the mother’s pension and the reduction of the gastro tax-are somewhat fade.
Well, what was the organization of him and his “Bavaria One” room trip program a few years ago. And at the end of March, a first winning rocket developed by a Bavarian start-up from Norway started into space. First unsuccessfully, yes, but that’s how space prince Elon Musk also started.
There is another story about Edmund Stoiber
The Ministry now wants to occupy the CSU. White beer and space? Can that go well? The older people may think of Edmund Stoiber and his transrapid plans that failed in the nineties.
However, there is another, much less well-known story about the Stoiber: After visiting the United States, the Bavarian Prime Minister was once so enthusiastic about organic technology research there that, hardly back in Bavaria, he redirected research funds for investments in this sector in large quantities. You laughed at that time too. But Stoiber was successful. Bavaria still benefits from this today.
This anecdote not only says something about Bavaria, but – we are again – about courage and spirit of discovery in politics. You don’t always have to demonize every technological dream, do not send everyone to the doctor with visions. Often it depends on an attempt.
Utopias must not soup between coffee kitchen and copy room
In fact, the Space Ministry has to solve an acute problem in the present: the impending dependence on Elon Musk. The tech billionaire dominates space with its rockets and satellites. You can no longer trust your help. All of this has been dismissed for far too long as a science fiction care.
Germany and Europe now have to conquer space themselves. Democracies must also be successful there. One can hope that this utopia will not soup between the coffee kitchen and the copy room of the new ministry. Fortunately, there is something else in the coalition paper: the new government wants to shoot a German on the moon.
Is that a threat? Perhaps. Reference to first!
