Israeli military in Gaza City
Israel’s Minister of Defense has announced an expansion of military operation in the Gaza Strip. Shortly afterwards, a army spokesman reports new military operations in Gaza City.
According to a military spokesman, Israeli troops started with new missions in Gaza City. The goal is to strengthen control over the area, to destroy Hamas infrastructure and to expand the so -called security zone, an army speaker announced. Since the beginning of the operation on the previous evening, dozens of terrorists have been killed and observation posts have been destroyed. Civilians had been allowed to leave the battle area over safe routes before and during the operation.
Hours earlier, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz had announced an expansion of military operation in the Gaza Strip. The city of Rafah, which has been surrounded since Saturday, is now part of an Israeli security zone, according to Katz Israeli media, wrote in a statement directed towards the population in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military will soon expand its commitment to other parts of the Gaza Strip, Katz continued. The population will have to leave the combat areas.
Katz had announced at the beginning of the month that the army would conquer extensive areas in the Gaza Strip, which should become Israeli “security zones”.
