Selenskyj to Trump: Come to Ukraine before peace solution

US President Trump wants to end the Ukraine War. But the view in Washington is strongly shaped by what Moscow tells, says the Ukrainian head of state Selenskyj.

Ukrainian head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj asked US President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine before he committed himself to supposed peace solutions with Russia. “Please, before any decisions, some negotiations, they come and see people, civilians, soldiers, hospitals, hospitals, churches, children who are destroyed or dead,” Selenskyj told CBS station.

He hoped Trump would then understand what he was dealing with. “You will understand what (Kremlin chief Vladimir) did,” he said. CBS recorded the interview with Selenskyj during a visit to his hometown Krywyj Rih. There, a Russian rocket goal on April 4 had killed 19 people, including 9 children and young people. This Sunday a rocket attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy killed at least 34 people.

Selenskyj: There is an aggressor and a victim

Selenskyj said that, in his impression, the Russian view of the war, which has been lasting for more than three years, had prevailed in the US administration. He coined this primarily to Vice President JD Vance, with whom he had hit each other violently during a visit to the White House at the end of February. “I tried to explain that you cannot search for something in the middle. There is an aggressor and there is a victim,” said the Ukrainian.

Trump wants to reach an end of the war and keeps a tight wire to the Kremlin through his special sent Steve Witkoff. Before the attack on Sumy, he said that the negotiations would go well to his impression.
