The attack by the Israeli army on a clinic building in the contested Gaza strip according to information from Jerusalem at a Hamas command center was applied. Israel’s government is outraged to criticism.
Israel’s government has appealed to a German statement on the attack of the Israeli forces to a hospital building in the north of the competitive Gaza Strip. It was a “precise attack” on a single building that was used by Islamist Hamas as a command and control center, the Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on the platform X. It reacted to an English-language X contribution from the house of the executive Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens).
The opinion of the Federal Foreign Office says: “The cruel Hamas terror should be fought. But humanitarian international law applies with a special protection obligation for civil places. How should a hospital be evacuated in less than 20 minutes?” Baerbock himself also wrote this in German on her own X account.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs counters Baerbock
“We would expect a clear and sharp conviction of the use of hospitals by Hamas and no rhetoric that encourages Hamas to continue the abuse of civil infrastructure,” replied Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Unfortunately, “important facts” were missing in the German explanation. The Israeli army spent a warning early before the attack. There were also no civilian victims as a result of the attack.
Eyewitnesses had confirmed to the German Press Agency that the army asked the management of the Al-Ali Hospital before the attack to evacuate the clinic. Patients and employees had 18 minutes to leave the hospital, reported the Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing eyewitnesses. The clinic has been the most important remaining medical facility in the north of the densely populated coastal area in recent months.
WHO: attacks on health care must stop
There were no medical activities in the attacked building, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The hospital grounds were also not damaged in the attack, so that it remains ready for further treatments. This contradicts information from the World Health Organization (WHO). Accordingly, the hospital was badly damaged in the attack.
The emergency room, the laboratory, X-ray devices and the medication edition have been destroyed, wrote WHO general director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on X, referring to the clinic director. 50 patients were laid, 40 seriously ill people could no longer be brought to safety before the attack. A child died because it could not be taken care of. “Hospitals are protected by humanitarian international law,” wrote Tedros. “Attacks on health care have to stop.”
Baerbock calls for ceasefire
Baerbock wrote “a solid ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip. “Otherwise there is only more sorry, hate & displacement.” The Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz had previously announced an expansion of military operation in the Gaza Strip.
For more than a month, Israel has no longer let humanitarian relief supplies to the sealed coastal area. With the measure, which mainly affects the needy civilian population, Israel wants to increase the pressure on Hamas to hand over the last Israeli hostages who were deported to Israel on October 7, 2023 in the terrorist attack of Hamas and other extremists. However, Hamas is only ready for the release of the 24 remaining hostage and handover of 35 corpses of other kidnappers if Israel agrees to an end of the war.
Netanyahu criticizes Macron
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the statements by French President Emmanuel Macron about a possible recognition of Palestine as a state. Macron makes a serious mistake if he continued to propagate the idea of a Palestinian state, Netanyahu wrote on X. Israel will not risk his existence on the basis of “remarkable illusions” and also do not accept moral sermons for the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger the existence of Israel.
A few days ago, Macron had promised in an interview by the broadcaster France 5 that France could recognize a Palestinian state in June. He made it clear that he also strives to recognize propalestinian states of Israel.
On the platform X, Macron later underlined France’s position for a so -called two -state solution: “Yes to peace. Yes, for the security of Israel. Yes to a Palestinian state without Hamas.” The two -state solution means an independent Palestinian state that occurs peacefully side by side with Israel. The government of the Jewish state rejects this as well as the Hamas, which is committed to the annihilation of Israel.
Huthi militia: Dead in the US attack in Yemen
Meanwhile, the Huthi militia allied with Hamas reported an attack by the US armed forces to a factory in the province of Sanaa. According to the Ministry of Health controlled by the Proiran militia, at least six people were killed and 30 injured. According to a spokesman for the ministry, most of them are said to have been civilians. Five children were also injured. The US military initially did not publish any information.
In Israel there had been rocket alarm in the Coastal metropolis Tel Aviv and large parts in the center of the country in the early evening. According to an Israeli military spokesman, a rocket, probably fired from Yemen, was successfully intercepted. At first there was no information on property damage or injuries. The Huthi militia repeatedly fires rockets on Israel, according to its own information from solidarity with Hamas.
