The possible future Chancellor Merz (CDU) is open to the delivery of the Taurus march aircraft to Ukraine. His suggestion that Ukraine could destroy the Crimean Bridge alerts Moscow.
The possible next Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has caused sharp criticism in Moscow with statements about a possible destruction of the Russian bridge to the annexed Ukrainian peninsula. “Think twice, Nazi!”, The Vice -Presentation of the Russian National Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, wrote on the X.
The former president reacted to Merz’s statements in the ARD show “Caren Miosga”. In it, the CDU boss not only continued to be open to the delivery of the Taurus marching aircraft to Ukraine. He also explained that the Ukraine Crimean Bridge could be destroyed.
“Fritz Merz is persecuted by the memory of his father, who served in Hitler’s Wehrmacht,” said Medvedev. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow accused Merz to refrain from escalation in the Ukraine war. Merz said in the ARD that the Ukrainian army had to be able to determine part of the event itself.
Merz: Ukrainian army must come from a defensive
“The Ukrainian army has to get out of the defensive,” said Merz. Then he said that the destruction of the bridge could help as the most important connection from Russia to the Crimea of Ukraine. “That would be a way to finally strategically (…) to put this country in front of the situation,” he said. After several attacks on the bridge, Ukraine has repeatedly explained to want to bomb the building.
The Nuclear Russia repeatedly warned of such an attack. Moscow also publicly made a hearing-in conversation of Bundeswehr officers in the past, which had also specifically discussed the destruction of the Crimean Bridge with marching aircraft.
Merz said in the ARD show that Kreml boss Vladimir Putin did not respond positively to weakness and peace offers. In his time as an opposition politician, he had opened to Ukraine for the delivery of Taurus marching aircraft. This continues to apply, said the CDU chairman on Sunday. “Not that we intervene in this war ourselves, but that we equip the Ukrainian army with such weapons.” When asked, Merz added that he had always said that he would only do so in coordination with the European partners.
The executive Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) strictly rejects a Taurus delivery.
