The fatal car attack on a demo in Munich caused horror nationwide. The federal prosecutor now lets the perpetrator fly into Karlsruhe by helicopter – and adapts the allegations.
Around two months after the fatal attack on a demonstration in Munich, the driver was demonstrated to the investigative judge of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH). The judge opened a new arrest warrant from the federal prosecutor in Karlsruhe, the authority announced. Among other things, in addition to attempted murder and assault, he is now accused of double murder in 54 cases.
The 24-year-old Afghan drove in Munich on February 13th in Munich to a group of demonstrators from the Verdi union. At least 39 people were violated. A two -year -old girl and his 37 -year -old mother later died of the consequences in the hospital. In the new arrest warrant, the crime allegations have now been added to murder.
Investigators suspect Islamist background
One day after the attack, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office “had taken over the investigation from the Munich General Prosecutor’s Office because of the special importance of the case”. There is a suspicion that the crime is religiously motivated and to be understood as an attack on the free democratic basic order, according to the Supreme German Anklebungs. It is therefore suitable to affect the internal security of the Federal Republic.
The perpetrator was initially in custody in the correctional facility (JVA) Stadelheim. Later he was moved to the psychiatric department of JVA Straubing, where he was to be examined psychiatrically. The question was also about whether he is guilty.
Driver is considered guilty
Immediately after the crime, there had been speculation to a possible mental illness of the man at the time of death. The Munich General Prosecutor’s Office, which had initially headed the investigation, saw indications of this, but not – despite the medical certificate from 2017, for a post -traumatic stress disorder.
The fact that the Federal Prosecutor’s Office was now flying the man to Karlsruhe with the helicopter to issue a new arrest warrant is considered to be a sign that the investigators continue to assume its guilt. This is a prerequisite for custody. If he were unable to guilt, he would have to be accommodated in a psychiatry instead.
