Around three years ago, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder’s office was shut down in the Bundestag. It will remain unclear whether that was right.
Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder refrains from a lawsuit before the Federal Constitutional Court in the dispute over his own office in the German Bundestag. On request, his lawyer Prof. Michael Nagel announced that the 81-year-old would no longer call the court in Karlsruhe for health reasons. Nagel emphasized that the question of whether the SPD politician is entitled to an office or not, remains “open and controversial”. The portal “Table.briefings” had previously reported on Schröder waiver.
The Bundestag’s budget committee decided in May 2022 to shut down the office. Schröder does not perceive any obligations in connection with his previous activity, it said.
The former chancellor, on the other hand, complained to the administrative courts. On the previous Thursday, the Federal Administrative Court in the third instance decided that it was not the right address: Whether Schröder was entitled to a state -financed office and employees could clarify the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe alone.
