The Gaza War continues. A ceasefire is currently not in sight. Hamas shows no understanding for a new demand on the Israeli side.
Hamas rejected the demand for disarmament of the Islamist militia in the Gaza Strip as a prerequisite for a ceasefire. The Hamas delegation was “surprised” when it was confronted with the Israeli proposal by the Egyptian intermediaries, an united official from the organization said to the Arab TV broadcaster al-Jasira. This was “completely unacceptable” for Hamas, he added.
Israel and Hamas indirectly negotiate another ceasefire in the Gaza War. Egypt, Qatar and the USA convey. In terms of content, it is about the release of the last Israeli hostages from the violence of Hamas, the dismissal of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons and the resumption of the aid deliveries blocked by Israel for the needy Palestinian population in the sealed coastal strip.
The last ceasefire ended almost a month ago after Israel and Hamas could not have agreed on the modalities for the next phase of the ceasefire. Israel had already completely stopped the aid deliveries in the Gaza Strip.
The most important controversial point is that Hamas insists that Israel withdraws militarily from the Gaza Strip after the release of the last hostages and ends the war. The Jewish state, on the other hand, wants to maintain a more permanent military presence in parts of the coastal area. Israel also wants to see Hamas disarmed and ensure that the organization leaders go into exile.
