Named the proportion of Russians who followed the events in Ukraine

There is no significant increase in concern among Russians because of the events around Ukraine, Valery Fedorov, general director of VTsIOM, told Izvestia.

“Only about 25% of adult Russians, mostly of retirement age, are closely following the situation in Ukraine. Everyone else is much more important than the economy and the coronavirus,” said Fedorov, referring to data from a recent survey.

He also stressed that the attitude towards the events around Ukraine had not changed in January 2022. At the end of December 2021, in an interview with Izvestia, Valery Fedorov also noted that about a quarter of our citizens are following what is happening in the neighboring country. This figure has been gradually declining over the years. For example, according to a VTsIOM poll in May 2014, political events in Ukraine were of interest to three-quarters of Russians (77%). In February 2016, this figure was 67%, and in July 2017 – 72%.

Such dynamics is explained by the “routinization” of this topic, Valery Fedorov explained in an interview with Izvestia.

“There is in the news – let’s listen, no – we don’t think much. And the older generation is still watching, interested and sick, ”the specialist noted.

The Civic Chamber (OP) noted that they record a huge number of fakes on this topic, but emphasized that disinformation from Western media has an impact primarily on the inhabitants of those countries.
