Russia strokes Taliban from the terrorist list – and prohibits the ban on

In Russia, the Islamist Taliban are now legal after taking power in Afghanistan. The Supreme Court in Russia raised the classification of the movement as extremist. “The decision to suspend the Taliban’s ban in Russia is subject to immediate execution,” said judge Oleg Nefedow. In March, the Attorney General in Moscow submitted the application to delete the movement from the black list of terrorist organization.

The Taliban are not prohibited in Germany either. According to the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Government does not recognize the Taliban politically but not as a legitimate government of Afghanistan. The German embassy Kabul has been closed since August 15, 2021.

The Taliban have been on the terrorist list in Russia since 2003. However, the Russian government had quickly made contacts for leadership in Kabul after the Taliban’s violent power take place in Afghanistan. Despite their extensive international isolation, Taliban delegations were several times in Moscow. The Russian government justified contacts with the necessary stabilization of Afghanistan.

Previously, the Russian parliament and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin set the course for the court decision to the Taliban. The Soviet Union had waged war in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989.

Putin, however, thanked the Hamas terrorist organization in Moscow for the release of Russian hostages. He praised the Islamists for their “humanitarian act” at a meeting with a released and his family.
