Thorsten Frei was instrumental in the coalition negotiations between the Union and the SPD. Now he is expecting a replacement of public expenses.
Union Parliament Manager Thorsten Frei (CDU) has announced cuts in the social security system for the coming years. Frei told the Portal Table Briefings according to Friday: “Health, care and pension, these are the big challenges. There will also be unpleasant decisions.” In view of the demographic change, “a changed priority setting” is needed.
Frei, one of the Union’s chief negotiators in the coalition talks with the SPD, expects the public expenditure to be replaced. If, for example, defense expenditure had to be increased, this inevitably goes at the expense of other tasks. “It can’t be possible.”
Thorsten Frei: Express the message
The CDU politician pleads to open the message openly: “We shouldn’t sprinkle sand in the eye,” said Frei. The mature citizen is the benchmark. “We live in an enlightened society, so paternalism is not necessary.”
The Union and SPD recently presented their coalition agreement on the formation of a new federal government. In the health and care sector, the expected future coalitioners announced “profound structural reforms”.
