Since the Bundestag election, it has been clear that the government of Greens Robert Habeck ended. In the future, he wants to take care of the relationship between Germany and the USA.
The outgoing Minister of Economic Affairs and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to get involved in foreign policy, according to his faction management.
“We are currently constituting the parliamentary group, and Robert Habeck will take care of the relationship between Germany-USA in the future-in consultation with us,” said Green Group leader Britta Haßelmann. “The importance of this relationship is obvious.”
Does Robert Habeck release his mandate? “Can’t confirm”
The “Spiegel” had previously reported to party circles that Habeck only wanted to keep his Bundestag mandate until the parliamentary summer break. After that, 25-year-old Green politician Mayra Vriesema, who comes from Schleswig-Holstein, should move to parliament like Habeck.
Haßelmann said to a possible withdrawal of the 55-year-old from parliament: “No, we cannot confirm that. It is not discussed that Robert Habeck will return his mandate before the summer.” She emphasized: “We always said Robert Habeck that we are very happy when he stays a member of our faction.”
Habeck had led the Greens into the Bundestag election in February as the top candidate. After the losses for his party, he said the day after the election, he declared that the Greens no longer strive for a leadership role. However, he accepted his mandate of the Bundestag, which he has had since 2021.
The Greens politician continues to run his office as Minister of Economics and Vice Chancellor until the new cabinet, which is expected to be sworn in from the Union and SPD, continues to be managing more-this is planned for the beginning of May.
