The United States wants to quickly achieve a deal to terminate the Ukraine War – and otherwise possibly hire its efforts. However, US President Donald Trump and his Foreign Minister Marco Rubio opened how quickly and with which concrete solution a peace should be achieved.

He wanted to see an agreement “very soon”, Trump said in the White House when asked. He did not specify how many days are mean. “Not a certain number of days – but quickly,” said the Republican.

Trump gives way to the question of long support from Ukraine

Trump emphasized that if there is a lack of willingness to compromise on both sides, he was not interested in continuing the US mediation efforts. “If one of the two parties makes it very difficult for some reason, we will simply say: you are stupid. You are fools, you are terrible people, and we will just leave it,” he said. “But hopefully we won’t have to do that.”

When asked whether he would end the support for Ukraine, Trump said a clear answer. He continues to believe in a negotiating solution. He is concerned that the war ended, he emphasized. He expects “enthusiasm” for the talks from both sides – Russia and Ukraine.

Rubio: Europeans have greater interest in a solution

His Foreign Minister had previously commented. “If it is possible, we are ready to do everything we can to make it easier and make sure that it will be ended in permanent and just,” said Rubio, as can be heard on a CNN video. “If this is not possible and we are so far away that this cannot succeed, I think that the president will probably be at a point at which he will say:” Well, that’s it. “” Rubio added with a view to the end of the war: “We have to find out within a few days whether this is feasible in a shorter point of view because if not, then we just have to move on.”

Talks with European and Ukrainian representatives in Paris also served to find out whether the war could be ended or not, said Rubio on his departure from the French capital. He praised the commitment of the Europeans and paid tribute to their constructive role in the talks, but at the same time emphasized that Europe had a greater interest in a solution – after all, the war on this continent takes place.

The United States has drastically changed its course in Ukraine policy since Trump has been president again. Under the Democrat Joe Biden, they were the most important supporter of the attacked country. The Republican Trump always represents it as if it were easy to end the war that has been going on for more than three years. But even after three months in office, he did not succeed.

In contrast to the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj, Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin had rejected a complete ceasefire proposed by Trump. The minimal consensus – a 30 -day moratorium for blows against energy systems – has now expired according to Russian presentation, without Putin officially giving instructions for an extension. In any case, both sides constantly accuse themselves of breaking the agreement.

Trump’s dissatisfaction increases

Recently, Trump had also increasingly demonstrated his dissatisfaction with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. So he was upset by Putin’s provocative proposal to put Ukraine under UN administration – and threatened new sanctions against Russian oil if there was no movement towards peace. On Thursday he said that he was expecting an answer to the negotiation offers this week. Trump now rejected the assessment that Kremlin may play a double game with him: “Nobody guides me around the nose.”

Some political observers interpret the statements of Rubios after the recent round of negotiations with the Europeans as reinforcement of the pressure on Moscow. The Kremlin showed itself – not surprisingly – unimpressed: “Russia strives for a solution to this conflict, a preservation of its own interests, and is ready for dialogue,” repeated Putin’s spokesman Dmitri Peskow the Moscow Mantra.

In fact, it is unclear what it would mean for the support of Ukraine, the United States should come to the conclusion that the continuation of peace effort is not worthwhile. Under no circumstances is the United States returning to the role of the strong supporter – rather Trump could continue to pursue his course of rappelling to Russia.

Rubio also indicated that the United States would not continue its support for Ukraine unlimited. “I think we all want the same thing,” he said. The United States are ready to continue to get involved – but not without visible progress and not for an indefinite time. There were “billions of dollars to support the Ukrainian side for three years,” he said. “But now we are at the point where we have to take a look at other things.”

If the United States takes the failure of the negotiations as an opportunity to withdraw completely, this would be fatal, especially for Ukraine. Putin deliberately delayed the negotiations because he has an advantage on the battlefield. Without the support of the United States for Ukraine, he could hope for even larger terrain gain.
