CDU boss Merz publicly considers to deliver Taurus missiles to Ukraine-under certain conditions. The former Ukraine ambassador in Germany, on the other hand, wants it to be faster.

The former ambassador of Ukraine in Germany, Andrij Melnyk, calls for a quick delivery of Taurus marching sky bodies from the designated Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). On May 6th, the day of his election as Chancellor, Merz should announce the immediate delivery of 150 taurus in the Bundestag and enforce them quickly. Melnyk wrote this in an open letter to Merz, which the “Welt am Sonntag” published. The Melnyk diplomat will in future represent its country as an ambassador at the United Nations in New York.

CDU boss Merz, who is to be elected Chancellor on May 6, had confirmed his willingness to deliver the marching missiles to Ukraine on Sunday. However, he always said that he would only do so in coordination with the European partners, said Merz. Russia warned that Germany could become a war party.

The Air Force has been using the Taurus system since 2005. The Department of Defense ordered 600 missiles according to the Bundeswehr, one copy cost about one million euros.

“Taurus without any ifs and buts”

Melnyk wrote that for the delivery of Taurus you need no coordination with the partners, no ultimate to the Russian President Vladimir Putin. “You should simply deliver these inferno weapons without if and buts to stop the creeping advance of the Russians and change today’s dynamics of war.” In order to use the Taurus systems efficiently, the future black and red coalition according to Melny’s words should also decide to hand over 30 percent of the available German fighter jets and helicopters from the air force’s holdings, including about 45 Eurofighters and 30 tornados.

Melnyk: Merz has “historical opportunity”

Melnyk wrote to Merz: “Not only the future of the Federal Republic depends on her success as a chancellor, but also the fate of Ukraine – and all of Europe”. Merz has a historical opportunity to “make the Federal Republic the most important lighthouse in the free democratic world”.

The outgoing, only managing Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) rejects a Taurus delivery because he fears that Germany could be drawn into war.

With the cruise missile, which, according to the manufacturer, has a range of up to 500 kilometers, Ukraine could also attack destinations far behind the front on Russian soil. The Ukraine ATACMS short -range missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers were made available to the USA. France and Great Britain deliver a marching missile with a range of around 250 kilometers.
