Nuclear dispute: nuclear negotiations between Iran and the USA began

The second round of nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran began in Rome. This was announced by the Iranian negotiating delegation.

The conversations take place on neutral soil: a building of the Embassy of the Arab State of Oman. The Iranian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi, the US delegation from the Middle East specialist Steve Witkoff. The Oman acts as an intermediary.

The political advisor of the top guide, Ali Khamenei, signaled Iran’s willingness to agree in the nuclear dispute. According to Ali Shamchani, Iran is ready to compromise under conditions. “We want a balanced agreement, no surrender,” he wrote on the X. Shamchani platform, among other things, called for a complete cancellation of sanctions – including relief for foreign investments and an end to threats from Israel and the USA.

US President Donald Trump has threatened Tehran with military consequences if the conversations should fail. The dispute over the Iranian nuclear program has been a permanent issue of international politics for many years. Witkoff recently emphasized that an agreement would only come about if Tehran fully stops uranium enrichment and his weapon development program.

Araghtschi was open to concessions in the nuclear program and the degree of uranium enrichment. Iran does not want to develop any atomic bomb. In return, Tehran calls for the cancellation of US sanctions. According to Iran, a complete waiver of nuclear technology is not up for debate.

Further conflict points are the Iranian rocket program and the Middle East policy, in particular the support of militant Islamist groups against the Iranian archenemy Israel.

There is also US Vice President JD Vance in Rome, but will not take part in the talks. The Trump deputy stays with his family in the city and wants to visit the Easter mass in the Vatican on Sunday.
