The Easter ceasefire arranged by Russia was short-lived. Already at night the Ukrainian Air Force warns again of hostile shelling with drones and rockets.
Shortly after the end of the Easter fire break arranged by Moscow in the Ukraine War, there was again air-alarm in the night in large parts of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force warned, among other things, in the Sumy area close to the border and in Charkiw, Saporischschja, Donetsk and Dnipro, of a danger from enemy air strikes. There were reports on explosions in several places. At first nothing was known about damage or victims.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin announced a 30-hour ceasefire on Saturday, which ended at midnight Moscow time (11:00 p.m. CEST on Sunday).
Moscow did not comply with a claim by Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj to extend the fire break after Easter by 30 days. The Kremlin did not respond to another proposal for Selenskyjs, at least for 30 days of attacks with drones, marching air bodies and rockets on civilian objects.
Selenskyj: Russia violates Easter ceasefire almost 3,000 times
After the Easter ceasefire ordered by Moscow, the Ukrainian President Selenskyj had accused the Russian armed forces 2,935 injuries to the fire break. Most of the attacks by the Russian armed forces had directed Pokrowsk in the Donetsk area, Selenskyj reported on the X.
The ceasefire was therefore not considered the Kursk area close to the border. There were a total of 96 Russian attacks on the entire front line. In 1,882 cases, fire was reported to Ukrainian positions. In addition, there were over 950 missions with drones, Selenskyj said, referring to information from the Ukrainian commander -in -chief Olexander Syrkyj.
“Tees speak louder and louder than words”
The Ukrainian President complained that Moscow had not complied with his demand for an extension of the fire break or his proposal for a limited break in the air.
Selenskyj announced that the measures of his country would remain symmetrical: “Waffen rest is answered with ceasefire, and Russian attacks are answered with our own for defense,” he continued. “Acts speak louder and louder than words.”
Ukraine complains in the war, which has been going on for more than three years, especially with massive damage to energy systems and civil infrastructure almost every day. Civilians die again and again, or they are injured. Russia always emphasizes that it only attacks military goals, but pictures show almost every day of hits in houses or other civil objects.
The US government is increasingly impatient in the efforts to convey between Ukraine and Russia and reach an end to the war. US President Donald Trump wrote on Sunday evening in the social network Truth Social: “Hopefully Russia and Ukraine will make a deal this week”. He added: “Both will start doing big business with the United States of America, which are developing perfectly and earn a fortune.”
Trump demands that both sides are willing to compromise – which leads to concern, especially among the western allies of Ukraine, that this has to make painful concessions. Putin has not yet moved away from his maximum demands. A few days ago, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made it clear that the United States could expect quick progress – and could set their efforts to peace if they come to the conclusion that an end to the war does not appear feasible.
Finally, problems with fire break for energy systems
On March 18, Putin ordered a break for energy systems on his phone call to US President Trump. However, Selenskyj also complained about a variety of violations from the Russian side. Moscow also listed dozens of cases in which Russian energy infrastructure had been attacked by the Ukrainian side. This agreement expired last week without officially having an extension.
Such thematically limited fire breaks are considered to be easier to implement than the extensive to water, on land and in the air. Kiev and Moscow repeatedly warn that a general ceasefire could be used primarily to re -position and upgrade the opponents, and then strengthened the combat. The two warring parties accuse each other not to have any real interest in peace.
