Merkel mourns the loss of “true friend of people”

Pope Francis died. Former Chancellor Angela Merkel remembers her conversations with the head of the Catholics.
Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) recognized the died Pope Francis as “a true friend of people”. “His voice will be missing,” she said in a message spread by her office. “In his twelve -year -old pontificate, he was particularly important to him in his twelve -year -old pontificate who could not raise their voice themselves. He was not afraid of being uncomfortable.”
Merkel emphasized: “In the conversations that I could have with him, he impressively campaigned to build bridges in seemingly insurmountable conflicts. He always had an eye on the world in its variety.” She had experienced Francis as a person “who was characterized by an unshakable and contagious optimism”.
