US President Donald Trump, who showed himself on the side of a large Easter bunny, had posted that 40,000 guests were expected to hunting the Easter eggs.
Long snakes had already formed at 6.30 a.m., parents and children had dressed chic. The invitations ran over a lottery. The festival should go until the early evening (11:30 p.m. CEST).
Egg shortage causes criticism of the festival – Trump does not want plastic eggs
It was longer unclear whether there would be real eggs for family fun in times of egg shortage. However, Trump had declared that he rejected plastic eggs, even if some critics had declared to use tens of thousands of eggs in times of scarcity for the fun.
The egg prices show whether the president can lower inflation as announced. Trump is obsessed with eggs. For every suitable and inappropriate opportunity, the Republican talks about egg prices and how they have supposedly plunge into the basement since taking office in January. The problem: consumers see no discounts and stand in front of empty shelves in many places.
“Eggs are now 79 percent cheaper and they are everywhere,” said Trump recently when he received the Israeli head of government Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House.
Egg prices in the USA at record high
The official consumer price index says something else: In March, egg prices in the United States rose to a record high. According to this, eggs were more expensive by 5.9 percent compared to February, while inflation decreased by a total of 0.1 percent. Consumers had to pay the record price of $ 6.23 (around 5.50 euros) for a dozen eggs. Although prices also attract prices in Europe, this is significantly more expensive than in Germany.
The main reason is the bird flu in the USA. In the first three months of this year alone, more than 19 million birds had to be killed due to the highly contagious H5N1 virus. Since the beginning of the outbursts, there have been almost 170 million birds since CDC.
Trump’s zigzag course in the tariffs is also noticeable. The US Federal Reserve Fed and well-known economists have been warning the government for weeks of rising consumer prices.
Because of the chicken and egg shortage, the United States even asked Germany and other countries for deliveries. This was not the egg of the Columbus: According to the egg association, there is no abundance in this country.
