When Robert Habeck was the better Chancellor

Does he go? Does he stay? Robert Habeck gives up puzzles: Our columnist is not a fan. And yet it would be missing something if the Green really puts an end to politics.
In the past few days, two things have been read about Robert Habeck: The Spiegel reported that the Greens politician wanted to give up his Bundestag mandate in summer. The group leader of the Greens, Britta Haßelmann, said that this was not discussed that Habeck would take care of German-American relationships in the Federal Foreign Committee of Parliament. He himself said nothing. So you don’t know what you are with with Robert Habeck. I have to admit: I felt like this with him every now and then.
I met Habeck for the first time when he came to Berlin for a background discussion many years ago. At that time he was still Minister of Agriculture in Schleswig-Holstein, but was already considered the coming man with the Greens. My impression was that the questions of the Berlin journalists bored him – too much capital bubble. But I didn’t understand whether it was really serious or just attitude. He strangled with us, I cheated with him. The latter has remained so.
Robert Habeck sometimes has something weighing
Habeck has Courage, no debate avoided for years, not even with angry people who were worried about work and existence. Maybe that is why I was amazed to experience him again and again, even sensitive, even as silky. That started with an interview after he had to leave Annalena Baerbock the candidacy of the Chancellor, and repeated himself when, after the constitutional court’s verdict, which the traffic light collected the ground, he insulted the opposition at all. Habeck sometimes has something wine.
He impressed me the most in the months after the Russian attack on Ukraine. At that time Olaf Scholz gave a speech on the “turn of the time” before he fell more or less again. Habeck, on the other hand, stunned communication, found a clear and understandable language, but also the courage to allow doubts and difficult. He hit the tone of an uncertainty. The Vice Chancellor became the second chancellor. Habeck has never been more chancellor than there.
Habeck is an unusual politician, appreciated by many, worshiped by some, tuned by many, hated by some. Habeck had to endure hostility, of which the threat caused by angry farmers on a ferry pier in Schleswig-Holstein was only the best known. But after the Bundestag election, followers also initiated a signature campaign in which far more than 400,000 signatories spoke out for his whereabouts in politics. I think he was more promise than fulfillment. But he moves, you have to give him that.
As Minister of Economic Affairs, he contributed to Germany surviving the consequences of the Ukraine War, but he also made stupid mistakes. And by that I don’t mean the famous heating law that only an instrument so as not to say: a weapon of those who were soothing the success. For some political companions, Habeck was a stimulus figure, mostly for Markus Söder, who did not even notice that he was only blurred with the way he made fun of the competitor.
It is still open how things really go on with Habeck. I don’t care at the moment. But probably belongs to Habeck one of the politicians, of whom you only know what you had in them when they are gone.
