The United States negotiates Iran about its nuclear program. The US foreign minister sees a long way to a result, but also warns of a war.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned the Americans that a war with Iran could be “much dirty” and more complex than past conflicts. Every military campaign in the Middle East, whether it is carried out by the USA or someone else against Iran, could trigger a much larger conflict, warned Rubio in a TV interview by the “Free Press”. It is not about a few drone shots, said the minister.
Iran spent billions for the military
Iran has spent billions of dollars for the development of its military in recent years, said Rubio. The United States is able to defeat Iran. “But I think it is important to understand that it is much more complex than it would have been the case ten or five years ago.” Rubio emphasized: “This is exactly why we hope to avoid this.” And that’s why President Donald Trump is so committed to a peaceful solution. Although he wanted to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, he would prefer peace, said Rubio, according to the interview transcript of the Foreign Ministry.
Rubio admitted that it was still a long way. “We are far from any agreement with Iran.” It is difficult and hard. “Unfortunately, this is often the case when it comes to peace. But we are determined to achieve a peaceful result that is acceptable for everyone.” Rubio emphasized that if Iran wanted to have a peaceful civilian nuclear program, he could have that.
