Hamburg’s red-green directorate agreed on the coalition agreement

After the citizens’ election
SPD and Greens in Hamburg agree on the coalition agreement

Social Democrats and Greens have been ruling together in Hamburg for ten years. And that should stay that way. But in one thing it was probably not that easy for the parties.

A good seven weeks after the citizens’ choice in Hamburg, the SPD and the Greens agreed on the continuation of their coalition. The negotiated coalition agreement is to be presented at 12.30 p.m. at a press conference in the town hall, both parties announced in the morning.

Despite losses, the SPD had again become significantly strongest in the election on March 2 in Hamburg. The Greens, on the other hand, were displaced in third place by the CDU. A coalition would have been possible for the SPD. After two exploratory rounds, however, the Social Democrats had decided to continue red-green.

SPD wants to fill more items in Hamburg

Since March 27, ten -people had negotiated the new coalition agreement. At the end of the talks, it was said that it was about the occupation of the Senate posts and the cut of the authorities. The parties ended the negotiations on Tuesday.

So far, the SPD has placed seven senators in addition to the first mayor, the Greens four. Large shifts in the staffing are not expected. An open question, however, is who will head the environmental department in the future. Senator Jens Kerstan (Greens) has still negotiated the coalition agreement, but is no longer available for another term for health reasons.

As far as the authorities’ cut, Mayor Peter Tschenscher (SPD) had expressed hope of being able to claim more responsibilities for the SPD before the election. For example, the area of energy that could switch from the environment to the economic authority would be considered. Likewise, responsibility for the districts could go back from the science authority to the tax authority.

Wahl Tschentschers planned as the mayor in early May

On Saturday, a SPD state party conference should vote on the coalition agreement. The Greens invited to a state members’ meeting for Monday evening. According to this, nothing should stand in the way of signing the contract and the renewed election of Tschentschers as the mayor on May 7th in the citizens.
