In the Union, the evidence that former health minister Jens Spahn should become the new leader of the parliamentary group in the Bundestag. The CSU approved a corresponding plan by CDU boss Friedrich Merz, it said from the area of CSU chairman Markus Söder. The “Munich Mercury” had previously reported about it. CDU and CSU form a parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
A spokesman for the Union faction pointed out that the personal details were decided promptly in this context.
Speculation about Jens Spahn as the new group leader
There have been speculation that Spahn could get the top post for some time. A few days ago, the “Bild” newspaper reported that this was Merz’s wish that Söder’s approval was still pending. Union circles initially only said that Merz and Söder would make a proposal “in due course”. The 208 MPs from the CDU and CSU must then agree to this.
The Union faction is currently being headed by Merz, which is to be elected Chancellor from May 6th on May 6th. The prerequisite is that a small party congress of the CDU on April 28 and the members of the SPD agreed to the coalition agreement by April 29. The CSU has already done this. Spahn was previously deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
