Pushkov responded to Truss with a proverb about not recognizing the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over Rostov and Voronezh

On February 10, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the words of British Foreign Minister Liz Truss, who mistakenly refused to recognize the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over the Voronezh and Rostov regions.

According to Pushkov, Truss’s erroneous statements about history and geography are not reservations, but the consequences of ignorance of the topic.

“It turns out that Truss’s sensational statement about the“ great Ukraine ”, which fought for its long history either with the Mongols or with the Tatars, is not a slip of the tongue, not an unsuccessful turn of speech, but something deeper, stemming from, to put it mildly, ignorance of the subject,” wrote the senator in Telegram.

Pushkov quoted a saying that a diplomat should think twice before saying nothing.

“Trass, apparently, follows a completely different commandment,” Pushkov concluded.

The fact that the British Foreign Secretary allegedly doubted the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over these territories was reported earlier in the day. The media claim that Truss, at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, announced the need to withdraw Russian troops from the Ukrainian border. In response, Foreign Minister Lavrov recalled that the military is on the territory of his country, and asked if London recognizes Russia’s sovereignty over the Voronezh and Rostov regions. Truss responded that “the UK will never recognize Russian sovereignty over these regions.”

The situation was smoothed out by the British Ambassador to the Russian Federation Deborah Bonnert – she explained to Truss that we are talking about Russian regions.

Truss later stated that “it seemed to her that Minister Lavrov was talking about part of Ukraine.”

The British minister arrived in Moscow on February 9 for a two-day visit. Negotiations with a colleague Lavrov compared with a conversation “mute with the deaf.” According to the Russian minister, relations between Moscow and London leave much to be desired, but this is not Russia’s fault.

The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
