The World Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Israel’s Premier Netanyahu. Israel appealed, but failed – until now. The arrest warrants against Netanyahu remain.
In the legal dispute over criminal prosecution for war crimes in the Gaza Strip, Israel has achieved partial success in front of the International Criminal Court. The court of the court in the Hague raised a decision by the judges in the first instance and gave an appeal to Israel. However, this decision has no influence on the arrest warrant against Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Back to the first instance
In the first instance, the judges had rejected Israel’s appeal against the criminal investigation. Israel had contested the jurisdiction of the court. However, the judge’s justification was based on the appeal chamber on a legal error.
The judges of the first instance must now deal with the complaint of Israel again. When there is a new decision is unclear.
Israel: Arrest warrants against Netanyahu and gallant
The criminal court issued arrest warrants against Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Joav Galant in November. They have been suspected of war crimes and crimes against humanity since October 8, 2023.
Chef Karim Khan has been investigating for months because of alleged war crimes in the Gaza War. Israel had doubts the jurisdiction of the court because it did not sign the basic contract itself. But the Palestinian areas are the contracting state. As early as 2021, the court found that it was also responsible for areas that have been occupied by Israel since 1967.
