If you get married, you have new possibilities when choosing the last name, and an important change applies to passport photos. That brings May.
May is not everything new, but some things already. What changes in Germany in the new month:
New possibilities for last names
From May 1st, spouses may lead a common double name with or without a hyphen. So far, only one spouse has been able to accept such a name.
Even if their parents decide against a double name, children can get a double name according to the new name right. If the parents do not determine a family name after the birth of their child, the child automatically receives a double name. In addition, the first family name, to which parents set for a child, also applies to other children.
Passes and ID card with digital image
Citizens no longer have to bring a printed photo to apply for a new ID card or passport. The passport photo is to be transmitted to the citizens’ offices in an electronic form. However, there should still be exceptions at the beginning: According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, paper photos can still be accepted in exceptional cases by July 31.
Stricter rules in organic waste
From May, stricter rules apply for the disposal of organic waste. If a higher proportion of interference – such as plastic – is determined as three percent by the garbage disposal or a waste disposal company, the biotonne is to be left neatly. Fine is also possible for violations.
Microsoft switches off Skype
Microsoft hires the operation of his video telephony program Skype. The software company announced that the focus should be on Microsoft teams in the future. Skype users could register with their Skype account with Microsoft teams for free to stay in touch with all their chats and contacts. Skype remains available by May 5th.
The coalition agreement between the CDU, CSU and the SPD is, but government formation is still taking place. It is concluded by the election of the new Chancellor and the appointment of his cabinet. Friedrich Merz (CDU) is to be elected Chancellor on May 6th-beforehand the three parties still have to agree to the black and red coalition agreement.
