Can the pragmatic Katja Wolf assert herself as BSW boss in Thuringia and win the power struggle with Sahra Wagenknecht? That’s what a BSW state party conference in Gera is about.
At a state party conference on Saturday (10 a.m.), the power struggle between Berlin and Erfurt is to be decided to occupy the Thuringian BSW party tip.
BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht promoted a repositation of the board shortly before the decision, which can also influence the fragile government coalition of the CDU, SPD and BSW in Thuringia. In doing so, she indirectly made the front against party leader and Vice President Katja Wolf, who faces re-election. Wolf’s pragmatic course is criticized by the team around Wagenknecht, but also with some Thuringian members.
BSW: Wagenknecht for Wolf’s competitor
The 49 -year -old Wolf has to face a martial candidate at the party congress in Gera. Wagenknecht promoted the election of Wolf’s competitor, the member of the state parliament, Anke Wirsing, in a letter to the members. Wirsing is a declared supporter of Wagenknecht, but has hardly appeared in the state parliament and as a candidate for the party chair. Wagenknecht insists on the separation of government and party offices after the first phase of the state association. However, such a regulation has not yet been secured with the BSW.
In order to relax the argument, Thuringia’s co-chair Steffen Schütz said that he did not run in Gera. Schütz is Minister of Infrastructure and like Wolf also Member of the Landtag. For him, Gernot Süßmuth will compete with a party base in the election of the board. According to his own statements, he wants to form a double tip with wolf.
