Who will be sitting at the cabinet table with the likely Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the future? So far there is only speculation, but there should be a little more clarity at the beginning of the week.
The CDU chairman Friedrich Merz and CSU boss Markus Söder want to present the future ministers on Monday who send their parties to the federal government. “This Monday is not only our small party congress, on which we vote on the coalition agreement,” said CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. “Friedrich Merz will also present our ministers.”
Söder, on the other hand, wants to announce the names in a meeting of the CSU board in Munich, to which the CSU members of the Bundestag were also invited, as the German press agency learned from its environment. The CSU boss then wants to publicly explain his personnel proposals in a press conference.
According to the coalition agreement, the CDU may name seven of the 17 ministers. In addition to the external, economic, health and traffic department, a ministry for “Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth” as well as a newly established digital ministry also falls. The CDU will also provide the Chancellery Minister. The SPD is allowed to fill seven ministries. The CSU accounts for three departments, the Interior Ministry as well as the agricultural department and a ministry for research and space travel.
The CSU occupies three departments, seven the SPD
CDU, CSU and SPD had already agreed which party will get which departments, only the names are not yet official. The Social Democrats should lead the departments of finance, defense, work and social affairs, development, environment/climate protection, building/living, judiciary/consumer protection.
It is still open when the SPD personnel table is presented. It only wants to present its ministers after the result of the result of the membership decision on the coalition agreement, which is planned for Wednesday.
The CSU has already approved the coalition agreement. The CDU is expecting the green light on Monday at the small party conference. If everything goes smoothly, Merz should be elected Chancellor on May 6th.
